Upgrade to Business Central from Dynamics NAV

Below are answers to frequently asked questions about upgrading from Dynamics NAV to Business Central.

How does data transfer from the old NAV version to Business Central look like?
An implementation company with appropriate experience (eg EIP Dynamics) will ensure that the data is transferred in a comprehensive and error-free manner. Data backup is performed and, if necessary, a test database. As a result, the transition from the old version to the new one is smooth and issues related to data transfer are not noticeable from the perspective of the system user.

What will the next updates look like after switching from Dynamics NAV to Business Central?
Updates in the Business Central online system are automatic (ie without the need for programmers’ help, as was the case with Dynamics NAV so far). It is enough to simply select the time window during which the update will be performed and accept it yourself and thus update the system to the latest version. As a result, Business Central online updates are much faster and more convenient compared to the updates we know from Dynamics NAV.

Can you modify / personalize Business Central as in the case of Dynamics NAV?
In Business Central you can use Events and Exentsions. Development work is performed using the AL programming language. As a result, you can adapt the system to your needs, just like it was in the case of Dynamics NAV.

Events are code elements that are placed in a custom object (or code unit) that is separate from the base code of your application.  On the other hand, extensions are not included in the base application. If you are planning to move to Business Central online, you will have to transfer your modifications to Events and Extensions. This task is smoothly and seamlessly performed by a Microsoft partner (eg EIP Dynamics) as part of the update.
